  1. Duolingo /ˈdjuːɵˌlɪŋɡoʊ/ is a free language-learning and crowdsourced text translation platform. As of 23 March 2015, Duolingo offers Latin American Spanish, French, German, Brazilian Portuguese, Italian, Dutch, Irish, Danish, Swedish and Turkish courses for English speakers, as well as American English for Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Greek, Dutch, Russian, Polish, Turkish, Hungarian, Romanian, Japanese, Hindi, Indonesian, Korean, Vietnamese, and Czech speakers. It also offers many other combinations of languages. It is available on the Web, iOS, Android and Windows Phone 8.1 platforms.

  2. Memrise is an online learning tool with courses created by its community. Its courses are mainly used to teach languages, but are also used for other academic and nonacademic subjects. Memrise uses flashcards augmented with mnemonics—partly gathered through crowdsourcing—and the spacing effect to boost the speed and ease of learning.

  3. Lingueo.com is a social network whose aim is to help its users to practice and learn foreign languages.Lingueo is a portmanteau of the Latin word "lingua", which means "tongue" (and, by extension, "language"), and the word "video", which refers to language learning by videoconference.

  4. LinguaLeo is a freemium online platform offering an English language learning service for Russian, Brazilian Portuguese, and Turkish speakers. As of September 2014, over 9.5 million people worldwide have used its online service to learn English. LinguaLeo is available on the web, Android, iOS, Windows Phone, and as a browser extension. In November 2010, the company raised $200,000 in funding from angel investors, and in June 2012 LinguaLeo received $3 million from Runa Capital.

  5. Linguascope is a publisher of educational resources for Modern Foreign Language (MFL) teachers and learners of French, German, Spanish, Italian and English based in Shoreditch, London. It serves three different levels of working; Elementary, Beginner and Intermediate. Primarily marketed at schools, its key products include interactive resources for whiteboard teaching and a range of iOS apps for language learners.
